Principal Clinical Scientist B8a

Clinical Scientist (Nuclear Medicine) – NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

About the Role NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Scientist to drive and develop Nuclear Medicine services across the region. Based within the Department of Clinical Physics & Bioengineering (DCPB), one of the UK’s largest medical physics and engineering services, this role supports diagnostic imaging, non-imaging tests, theragnostics, and radionuclide therapies at multiple key sites—Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Gartnavel General Hospital, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and the Royal Hospital for Children.

The service handles ~45,000 patient investigations annually, operating under a 8:00–20:30 (Mon–Sun) expansion as part of service growth. You’ll work 36 hours per week (4x 9-hour shifts) across this diploma-specialist multidisciplinary team, including clinical scientists, technologists, consultants, radiographers, nurses, and administrators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist scientific, clinical, and technical support for:
    • SPECT/CT, PET/CT, nuclear cardiology, and radionuclide therapies
    • Image analysis, interpretation, and reporting
  • Act as the Medical Physics Expert (MPE) within the service
  • Implement radiation protection, quality assurance, and equipment performance—ensuring compliance with IRR17, IR(ME)R, and Scottish regulations
  • Lead clinical governance and support research, teaching/training (up to MSc level), and service improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to duty physician rotas in a highly regulated clinical environment

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
