Principal Power System Design Engineer – Networks
Department: Networks Status: Permanent (37.5 hours per week) Salary: Competitive and based on experience/qualifications Location: Glasgow or Manchester

Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field
- Proven network design experience, covering substations, cables, overhead lines, and plant
- Expertise in load flow, fault-level, voltage/stability/harmonics protection coordination, and EMT assessments
- Hands-on PowerFactory, IPSA, PSCAD/PSS®E/ETAP or equivalent experience
- Robust knowledge of transmission/distribution planning & grid connection processes
- Ability to develop/review designs, single-line diagrams, specifications, and engineering reports
- Direct experience with FEED/Pre-FEED studies, feasibility studies, or detailed design projects
- Familiar with GB Grid/Distribution Codes, ENA Engineering Recommendations, or equivalent standards
- Strong communication aptitude for collaborating with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous learning and technical excellence
- Prior mentoring of junior engineers or small-team leadership

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Chartering CEng status (or near-charter) eligibility
- Python programming for design/analysis/automation
- Knowledge of energy regulation & renewable integration
- Experience with HV asset management, grid connections, due diligence, or owner’s engineer projects
