Principal Consultant – Marine Science
Are you experienced in coastal and offshore physical processes and their interaction with marine infrastructure? Do you enjoy leading technical workstreams while supporting and mentoring a growing team? Are you looking for an opportunity to shape how robust marine science informs major offshore developments?
APEM is seeking a Principal Consultant to join our multi-specialist Marine Science team. Our physical processes specialists support major offshore wind and coastal infrastructure projects, applying expertise in oceanography, geomorphology, seabed mobility, and marine geology to deliver robust environmental assessments and practical solutions for clients.
In this role, you’ll lead physical processes workstreams across a range of projects, providing expert advice on the interaction between marine developments and the receiving environment. You’ll contribute to EIA and HRA assessments, support stakeholder and regulator engagement, and help develop solution-focused services for clients across offshore wind and wider marine infrastructure projects. Alongside technical delivery, you’ll mentor consultants within the team, managing workloads and resources, and ensure all outputs are delivered to the highest technical standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
