Principal Consultant – Reporting and Disclosure
Department: Strat, Trans & Reporting : Advisory
Location: UK - Manchester (Other EMEA locations, including Utrecht and UK-wide capacity, will be considered.)
About The Role
As a Principal Consultant in our Reporting and Disclosure team, you will lead client-facing projects supporting sustainability reporting, project managing, and delivering high-impact work that enables organisations to communicate progress on ESG and climate sustainability. Your ability to combine deep technical expertise with strategic leadership will ensure alignment with evolving regulatory and market expectations.
You’ll need a blend of client management, deliverable excellence, and innovative thought leadership. Enhance Anthesis’ reporting capabilities while creating meticulous, forward-thinking work that drives impact for clients, colleagues and the wider industry.
Core Responsibilities
1. Client & Project Delivery (65% of time)
- Project Leadership: Manages delivery of consulting engagements/projects via structured delivery plans, ensuring on-time, on-budget execution to high-quality standards.
- Deliverables & Thought Work: Drafts high-calibre reports, presentations, and workshops aligned with project scope—demonstrating rigor and clarity.
- Example deliverables: ESG/Sustainability reports, Double Materiality Assessments, ESG data collections, CSRD/MSFD compliance drafts.
- Expert Input & Quality Assurance: Actively reviews project deliverables, provides recommendations, and upholds standards through deep knowledge of reporting frameworks (e.g. CSRD, ISSB, EU Taxonomy).
- Client Relations: Builds long-term trust and influence across client stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business objectives and governance concerns (e.g., CFOs, Boards, Sustainability Officers).
2. Business Development (20% of time)
- Service Development: Contributes to lean process improvements for existing report structures or innovative service offerings, creating delivery frameworks and standardisation.
- Key Account Strategy: Cultivates deeper client partnerships, growing value tiers through proposed transformations (reporting strategy, data systems, strategy).
- Proposals & Positioning: Leads the design, pricing and drafting of proposals in collaboration with peers, ensuring compelling narratives that align with client needs.

3. Strategic Leadership & Contributions (15% of time)
- Training & Coaching: Leads Anthesis Centre of Excellence (ACE) sessions, mentors junior team members, and supports skill development.
- Internal Innovation: Participates in strategic initiatives, commercial research and internal proposition development, ensuring Anthesis remains ahead in ESG/finance consulting.
- Recruitment: Assists in team expansion by championing hiring, interviewing, and onboarding processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
Key Attributes
- 6 years minimum experience in:
- Strategy / reporting consulting or an advisory agency (e.g., sustainability-focused consultancies), or
- In-house roles (finance, reporting, ESG/compliance, risk) with defined strategy/reporting components.
- Focus on standards-driven reporting (equally applicable to limited scope/standards or data-heavy approaches).
- Board facing capability – Succeeds in dialogue with CFOs/finance professionals, advocating for strategic investments in ESG.
- Quick adaptation to fast-evolving frameworks (e.g. CSRD, ISSB, evolving UE Taxonomy requirements) and regulatory press.
Methodologies & Tools
- Comprehensive understanding of sustainability reporting landscapes, practices and stakeholder expectations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (strong Excel/SPA/PRO functions) to model outputs, extract insights, and simplify findings clearly.
- Familiarity with common ESG data platforms/collections (tools such as FanCon, OneTrust, SSGX, SAP Sustainability Platform). Knowledge of **reporting per[contains]en lunghea/visualization extensions is desirable.
- Bonus points for experience in:
- Technical implementation of client-side or in-house data systems for ESG metrics.
- Sustainability assurance processes, Double Materiality Assessments, or governance-led redesigns.
