About the Role
The Principal Data Analyst role provides senior leadership within the Business Intelligence (BI) Team, driving the development, delivery, and strategic use of business intelligence (BI), performance reporting, and costing solutions across Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
This senior analytical and leadership position is responsible for transforming complex data into actionable insights to support structured decision-making, performance monitoring, and service improvement. The role focuses predominantly on costing and productivity, while contributing to wider BI initiatives, including policy enhancements, data-driven process improvements, and automation.

- Strategisches BI-Management – Entwicklung und Bereitstellung von hochwertigen Datenanalysen und Berichtsprodukten auf Grundlage von datengesteuerten Lieferantenprüfungen und operativer Erfordernissen des NHS.
- Führung & Umsetzung – Sicherstellung, dass genaue, zugängliche und nutzbare Informationen in einer verständlichen Form gesleep für Manager, klinische Teams und externe Stakeholder geliefert werden.
- Analyse & Visualisierung – Nutzung von SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio) und Power BI, um datenbasierte Dashboards, Ad-Hoc-Berichte und komplexe Analyseprodukte zu erstellen.
- Datenqualität & Optimierung – Implementierung von Prüfverfahren für Datenqualität, Vorschlag von KI-gestützten Prozessänderungen und Unterstützung bei der Verbesserung klinischer Informationssysteme.
- Projektfortschritt & Kooperation – Beitrag zu automatisierten Abläufen, Abteilungsanalysen und Anforderungsbearbeitungen im Sinne strategischer Initiativen.
- Kollaboration mit Stakeholdern – Entwicklung enger Zusammenarbeiten mit klinischen Dienstleistungsbereichen, Abteilungsleitern und Erstkommissionären, um hervorragende, zeitgerechte BI-Lösungen zu liefern.
Responsibilities
Core Strategic & Analytical Roles
- Lead the curated development and delivery of **BI products aligned with Trust’s Costing & Productivity Strategy, ensuring relevance for directors, service teams, and commissioning.
- Design and deploy strategic data-driven reports, KPI dashboards and real-time insights using SSMS, Power BI and Business Intelligence-frameworks for company-wide decision-making.
- Drive bzw. Support Performance Reporting & Quality Assurance:
- Implement automated reporting and transparency within cost control & productivity business units.
- Propose new data accuracy measures and recommend improvements to clinical information systems integration.
- Support data governance frameworks, traceability and compliance protocols where applicable.

Project Coordination & Reporting Delivery
- Coordinate monthly performance updates, quarterly strategic grids, and multi-year projections relevant for regional and trust planning.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness and timeliness of Costing/Service utilization reports for all divisions according to the planning schedule.
- Provide clear and concise explanations to improve understanding of cost barriers, spending trends, and operational efficiency.
- Escalate requirements for custom systems integration when advanced analyses are not possible under existing BI Links.
Engagement & Improvement Leadership
- Build collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders:
- Primary focus on clinical teams & departmental heads, ensuring that BI solutions meet their operational priorities.
- Facilitation of cross-team engagement workshops/kick-off discussions with Data Governance and IT Services.
- Establish data quality control checkpoints and propose scalable process efficiency for ongoing monitoring and refinement.
Ad-Hoc & Change Management
- Support response mechanisms on unplanned queries and financially-driven critical insights (e.g., urgent commissioning requirements or audit adjustments).
- Develop Broader Automated Processes where necessary, reducing manual inputs via:
- Data extracted from EPR/dalh.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Skills & Knowledge
✔ Superior technical expertise in data analysis, SQL query development, complex report design, and power of BI for visualization of healthcare metrics. ✔ Deep understanding of NHS financial solutions and trust-centered costing methodologies, tailored for a community care environment. ✔ Ability to interpret and transform sensitive organisation-specific or clinical data (e.g., compliance adherence, revenue leakage points.) ✔ Strong team collaborator with leadership experience in workshop facilitation or cross-departmental liaison work. ✔ Proficiency in optimising differentiated data systems or healthcare databases to enhance productivity and provide data-driven strategic recommendations.
Experience & Education
