About The Role

Everway is a growing EdTech SaaS business with a complex, multi-product data landscape. Our enterprise and commercial data—spanning CRM, ERP, finance, and revenue operations—sits at the heart of how the business runs and how leadership makes decisions. As the business grows, the engineering work behind this data is becoming more complex, not less.

We're looking for a Principal Data Engineer to bring permanent senior engineering depth into this domain. You'll be a hands-on senior IC, leading the design and delivery of enterprise data products on our Databricks lakehouse—from ingestion through to governed, contract-backed datasets consumed by analytics, business operations, and downstream AI use cases. You'll tackle the hardest problems in the domain: entity resolution, master data, integration across acquired systems, and the engineering complexity of operating across multiple ERP and CRM platforms.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This role reports to the Director of Data Engineering and sits within the wider Data Engineering function. You'll contribute to engineering standards and shape how the data team builds and operates. This is a senior IC role with deep technical authority and influence.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver enterprise data products on Databricks, owning ingestion, transformation, and serving layers across the medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) to produce certified datasets consumed across the business
  • Lead the hardest technical challenges, including entity resolution, master data management, integration of acquired systems, and operating across multiple ERP and CRM platforms
  • Define and evolve engineering standards, including dbt patterns, ingestion best practices, data contracts, testing, and observability, while contributing to cross-cutting standards across the data function
  • Ensure data quality and contract compliance, implementing quality checks, maintaining contracts for buyer-seller interactions, and resolving issues proactively and effectively
  • Raise the technical bar through code review, design input, pairing, and mentee support, fostering a team that embraces excellence
  • Translate operational complexity (multi-system landscapes, integrations, fragmented sources) into clean, maintainable engineering solutions that drive business reliability

Essential Criteria

  • 5+ years in data engineering, with demonstrable senior IC leadership experience (e.g., technical ownership or architectural influence)
  • Production-level expertise with Databricks (data processing, notebooks, cluster management, security)
  • Hands-on experience with dbt (modelling, testing, deployment)
  • Strong SQL and Python proficiency (complex transformations, optimisation)
  • Experience with enterprise data sources (CRM, ERP, or finance platforms)
  • Track record in defining and enforcing standards (testing, CI/CD pipelines, documentation, observability)
  • Expertise in complex environments: multi-system integrations, mergers/acquisitions, or large-scale platform migrations
  • Clear communication skills—capable of explaining technical decisions to engineering teams, analysts, and senior business stakeholders in business-impactful terms
