Your new company
A leading global financial services organisation is investing heavily in the growth of its trading and risk technology capabilities. As part of a strategic transformation, they are building a next-generation Trading Data Lakehouse platform to support critical front-office and risk reduction initiatives across the business.
Your new role
As a Principal Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and engineering a greenfield Trading Data Lakehouse platform. Working as part of a global engineering function, you will help define the target architecture while remaining hands-on in the delivery of cloud-native data solutions.
You will be responsible for platform engineering, metadata management, data lineage, governance and data visualisation capabilities, helping to build a scalable platform that supports complex trading use cases. This is a highly visible role with significant influence over the future direction of the platform and wider team growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
