Senior Data Science Role at Cirium Propulsion Labs – Principal Data Scientist

About the Role
As a Principal Data Scientist, you will be a senior individual contributor, driving technical leadership while shaping best practices across the data science community. You’ll partner with product, engineering, and business teams to design and deliver data-driven solutions. The role blends technical leadership, collaboration, and hands-on development to address pivotal challenges in aviation analytics.
Responsibilities
- Act as a technical authority in advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI, defining and refining scalable, robust solutions
- Offer thought leadership on emerging technologies and methodologies for aviation-specific applications
- Mentor and coach data scientists, fostering continuous learning and technical excellence
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to ensure alignment between data science initiatives and business goals
- Translate complex technical insights into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders
- Demonstrate leadership by coding, modelling, and refining solutions first-hand
- Design, prototype, and validate cutting-edge approaches to high-impact use cases
- Partner with engineering teams to deploy models into production

Requirements
Technical Experience
- Strong experience with large-scale, complex, real-world datasets, ideally within aviation or a related industry
- Expertise in data wrangling and feature engineering, and the ability to build resilient data pipelines
Advanced Analytics Proficiency
Select expertise from these domains, with a strong focus on at least one:
- Predictive modelling on tabular data
- Machine learning, including deep learning
- NLP (Natural Language Processing) and large language models
- Generative AI pipelines
- Simulations
- Graph-based models
- Time-series forecasting
- Geospatial modelling
- Causal inference
- Reinforcement learning
- Optimisation algorithms
- Anomaly detection
