Principal Data Scientist

We are looking for a Principal Product Data Scientist to join a team developing predictive maintenance products and advanced machine learning solutions for a FTSE 100 organisation.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who combines strong machine learning expertise with excellent software engineering practices and a product-focused mindset.
You'll have ownership of projects from initial problem definition through to the delivery of production-ready solutions, working on real-world challenges where data science directly influences product direction and business outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing
- Designing, developing and deploying machine learning models
- Building production-grade data science products
- Translating business challenges into robust modelling approaches
- Working across the full data science lifecycle, from discovery through to deployment
- Maintaining high standards of code quality and engineering practice
- Reviewing code and contributing to collaborative development processes
- Explaining complex results and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
What We're Looking For
- Extensive commercial experience in machine learning and predictive modelling
- Strong software engineering capability, ideally in Python
- Experience deploying and maintaining machine learning models in production
- Deep understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their underlying principles
- Ability to work independently and lead complex initiatives
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable
- Predictive maintenance experience
- MLOps and model deployment experience
- Cloud-based machine learning platforms
- Experience building customer-facing or product-focused solutions
