What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved
As a Principal Democratic Services Officer (Job Share), you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting Camden’s democratic processes, upholding the principles of transparency, legality, and effectiveness in decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Service a portfolio of formal Council bodies, including scrutiny committees and regulatory panels
- Provide authoritative procedural and constitutional advice to elected Members and senior officers
- Oversee high-quality agenda planning, ensure clear and accurate minutes, and deliver trusted professional guidance to enable Members to perform their roles confidently and effectively
- Drive continuous improvement across Democratic Services, promoting high standards, collaboration, and innovation in governance support
- Engage in a hybrid working environment, with primary office presence at Camden Town Hall (Judd Street) and requirements for evening meeting attendance

All About You
This role requires:
- Experience servicing formal local authority committees with a deep understanding of local government law, governance, and committee procedures
- Ability to provide clear, impartial, and practical constitutional advice in a political environment
- Strong relationships with Members, senior officers, and colleagues
- Excellent written communication to produce accurate minutes and formal documentation under pressure, while managing competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Digital confidence, including experience with committee management systems, virtual meeting tools, and webcasting technology
- Passion for service improvement and maintenance of high standards of democratic accountability
