The Role: Principal Developer / Team Manager
An exciting, permanent opportunity has arisen to:
- Lead a development team supporting digital solutions
- Shape digital transformation for NHS Ayrshire and Arran
Hours/Pursuant Work Requirements
- Part TV, 36 hours per week
- Monday–Thursday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Friday: 9:00 am – 3:30 pm (Flexibility to adjust this day may be available)
⚠️ Non-delegable licence requirement: A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence is essential for this post.
Key Responsibilities
As Principal Developer / Team Manager, you will:
- Lead and manage a skilled and collaborative development team
- Design, develop, deliver and enhance digital solutions to support service improvement
- Align with organisational priorities
- Drive progress in digital transformation within NHS Ayrshire and Arran
- Foster a culture that promotes:
- High development standards
- Strong information governance
- Professional growth and development for team members
- Collaborate closely with colleagues and key stakeholders
- Ensure continuous quality assurance (QA) and adoption of best practice

Required Knowledge, Training & Experience
We seek an industrious and strategic leader with a proven track record in software development and digital systems management. Key requirements include:
Technical Expertise
- Proficient expertise in relevant programming languages and digital platforms.
- Performance track record in:
- Project planning
- Resource management
- Successful delivery of complex digital initiatives
Leadership & Development
- A proven ability to build strong working relationships with teams, stakeholders, and partners.
- Experience in:
- Shipboarding strong project outcomes and driving innovation.
- Developing and mentoring technical staff (highly valued/preferred).
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting best practice in software development.
Governance and Standards
- Deep understanding and application of development best practice, information governance, and QA processes.
