Principal Digital Engineer – Babcock Technology Centre & Birchwood
Role Overview
Title: Principal Digital Engineer Locations: Stoke Gifford, Bristol / Birchwood, Warrington (Hybrid Working Arrangements) Compensation: Competitive salary + extensive benefits Role Type: Full-time, Permanent (35 hours/week) Reference: SF74485
Transform defence infrastructure through visionary digital engineering. At Babcock, you’ll drive digital transformation across critical Navral Nuclear programmes, leading Building Information Modelling (BIM), information management, and project technology strategies—delivering cutting-edge solutions for defence and national infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic leadership: Lead digital engineering strategy across high-profile programmes, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with standards, and customer expectations.

Process optimization:
- Develop, review, and implement BIM workflows, digital project intent, and formal processes.
- Oversee digital deliverables from engineering and project teams, ensuring quality, timeliness, and compliance (e.g., ISO 19650).

Team direction:
- Guide BIM and digital engineers in clash detection, design coordination, and COBie/IFC data reviews.
- Manage workloads and drive best practice in Information Management (IM) via BIM Execution Plans and task-level delivery plans.

Risk mitigation & reporting:
- Conduct BIM and digital assessments, producing technical notes, risk documentation, and reports to sustain programme integrity.

- Stakeholder engagement:
- Collaborate with senior professionals to tailor BIM/Digital/IM strategies, embedding interest-driven innovations across programmes.
Who You Are: Essential Criteria
Experience
★ Strong senior management background in digital engineering, with deep expertise in:
- BIM (Building Information Modelling), CAD, and Information Management, including ISO 19650 compliance.
★ Hands-on experience with:
- BIM Execution Plans, master plans, and task-level information delivery plans.
- BIM workflows: clash detection, BIM 360/X, Revit, Navisworks, or dorsal platforms.
- Data standards: COBie, IFC, and model exchange techniques.
★ Proven track record in leadership and strategic alignment in high-registry environments, ideally nuclear or defence contexts.
Qualifications – Preferred
- Degree in a STEM discipline plus chartership (e.g., 3D Engineering Construction Institute; RIBA or equivalent).
- Applicants with equivalent experience will be considered.
