Principal, Direct Credit

The Opportunity: As a Principal you will help lead the Direct Credit Team to make high-quality private credit investments providing compelling returns for our investors while leveraging the benefits of our platform and market access. The Direct Credit Team at Hamilton Lane invests across a widely diverse set of private credit security types, geographies and industry sectors. Responsibilities: Work with the leaders of the Direct Credit Team to drive the strategy, growth and evolution of the platform Lead deal teams tasked with performing investment due diligence and credit risk analysis on Private Credit transactions Make investment recommendations to Hamilton Lane’s Credit Investment Committee Work closely with the legal transaction team to review credit documents and negotiate terms Develop and maintain bank and general partner relationships for primary and secondary transaction sourcing Monitor existing investments by analyzing and reporting on portfolio companies’ financial results, inclusive of valuation reviews Supervise and develop mid-level and junior investment professionals Participate in prospect and client-facing activities such as fundraising and investor meetings Qualifications: Must-haves: Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience performing credit risk and investment analysis, preferably at a reputable leverage finance institution or a private credit manager A track record of successfully mentoring and leading a team including managing multi-level teams Seeking a leader with a proven track for guiding, developing, coaching, and motivating a team of people to achieve high performance and operational excellence in a fast-paced work environment Candidates must have a strong credit background; proficient in all phases of private credit analysis (Senior and Junior), including underwriting, monitoring, legal negotiation and restructuring Nice-to-haves: Strong academic credentials Ability to conduct industry research, articulate opinions and write clear and concise memoranda on investment opportunities A team-oriented approach and an ability to interact productively across multiple verticals within Hamilton Lane Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills Strong interest and commitment to private markets investing Strong work ethic, judgment, and professional demeanor Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills Willingness to work 50+ hours / week and travel 15+% of time Travel Requirements: Up to 15% domestic/international We offer a competitive salary, annual discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package which includes: Medical, Prescription, Dental, Paid Time Off, 401k plan, Life and Disability Insurances, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Stock Purchase Program, Health Club Reimbursement and Flexible Spending Accounts.
