Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The client Design Authority undertakes a vital role in ensuring that key defence infrastructure is safe and fit for purpose.

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the technical capability of the Design Authority (DA). This role will be suited to engineers with experience in Electrical Design, although candidates experienced in Electrical Installation or Maintenance are also welcomed.

TASKS

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Technical excellence in the specification, production and assessment of design packages for infrastructure.
  • Specification of reliability and operational constraints for infrastructure.
  • Assessment of work control procedures for maintenance of infrastructure.
  • Assessment of infrastructure design, material state, qualification and ageing mechanisms to permit the continued operation of facilities and utilities.
  • Discharge and display a robust safety and security culture.
  • Ensure outputs of safety related contracts meet the contract requirements and appropriate safety requirements by acting as an intelligent customer.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Broad experience in electrical engineering, preferably with experience of some of the following electrical systems; HV/MV distribution, LV distribution, protection systems, C&I systems, electrical machines including synchronous motor, frequency changers, diesel alternators.
  • Experience of working within the nuclear industry or any other high hazard industry, although this is not considered essential.
  • Ability to provide practical, creative and cost-effective solutions for design changes / modifications of plant and supporting Infrastructure.
  • A good understanding of British and international design standards.
  • A track record of making intelligent evidence based decisions using various sources of data.
  • Good skills in verbal and written communication.
  • The ability to effectively manage and prioritise your own workload.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential:

  • HNC or equivalent qualifications and experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Design Intent for Electrical Infrastructure in the nuclear industry or similar industry.

Desirable:

  • Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience and standing.
  • Degree or equivalent qualifications and experience in a relevant engineering discipline.

Staff or umbrella contractor

  • Requires sole UK national with SC clearance.
  • Mainly remote working with 1-2 days per month in Helensburgh.
