Principal Ecologist

Principal Ecological Consultant – London

About the Role

LUC’s ecology team is passionate about creating opportunities for wildlife and people to thrive together.

With established teams in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Sheffield, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, we support a wide range of projects—both local and national. We’re enthusiastic about finding new ways to apply emerging ecological principles and methods to tackle the most challenging policy and development projects, fostering collaboration and fun along the way.

We’re currently driving some of the UK’s most exciting projects in consultancy. From energy generation to historic building restoration, regenerative agriculture, to strategic biodiversity enhancement plans, our mission is clear: to deliver better futures for nature, people, and place.

We’re seeking a Principal Ecological Consultant to join our thriving London team, helping us deliver our renewable energy generation and transmission portfolio, while also contributing to broader development and nature restoration projects across south east England.

Responsibilities

The role includes:

  • Preparing tender responses and fee proposals
  • Designing, overseeing, and delivering ecological surveys
  • Managing projects using LUC’s internal Project Management System
  • Engaging with project clients and stakeholders
  • Analysing and interpreting ecological data
  • Producing consultancy reports
  • Line managing junior colleagues
  • Supporting business development activities
  • Collaborating with wider teams, including those specialising in:
    • Strategic Ecology
    • Arboriculture
    • Agri-environment
    • Landscape Architecture
    • Planning
    • Heritage
    • GIS and Visualisation

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
