Principal EICA Design Engineer (Water Sector)
Senior & Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Engineer – Water Asset Design Team

Our Regulated Water Asset Design team supports the municipal water sector in the UK and internationally. We hold direct long-term agreements with water companies like Severn Trent Water and Southwest Water, as well as strong partnerships with blue-chip contractors such as Costain and Galliford Try. We provide a full range of design services:
- Wastewater treatment
- Water treatment
- Sewerage
- Water network schemes
Due to increasing demand, we are actively recruiting Senior and Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Engineers to support the AMP8 water industry capital investment programme.

Key Responsibilities
As an integral part of the Water Engineering team, your role will involve:
- Designing and delivering technical solutions for projects, producing or reviewing detailed EICA engineering deliverables (tenders, concept and detailed design, construction, and commissioning).
- Delivering EICA design inputs for infrastructure projects, including:
- Preparing or reviewing EICA packages:
- Technical specifications
- Calculations and reports
- Datasheets, schedules, and control philosophies
- User requirement specifications and documentation
- Network architecture drawings
- Preparing or reviewing EICA packages:
- Reviewing and evaluating tenders
- Participating in proposals, scoping work, estimating time/resources, and identifying key tasks.
- Understanding requirements for DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and EICA equipment in explosive atmospheres.
- Supporting inspection, testing, commissioning, and factory acceptance tests for control systems, panels, PLC/HMI applications, and SCADA.
- Coaching and mentoring junior ICA engineers (Instrumentation & Control Automation).

Requirements & Criteria
To be considered for this role, we are looking for:
Qualifications
- Degree in electrical or control engineering (IET-accredited) or
- Minimum HND in electrical/control engineering with substantial experienced
- Professional registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council
Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience in EICA engineering design for water infrastructure, with expertise in:
- Creating and reviewing technical specs, calculations, reports, datasheets, control philosophies, and USER REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATIONS.
- Competence in network architecture drawings and systems design.
- Knowledge of DSEAR, electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres, and CDM regulations.
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to:
- Be collaborative, motivated, and diligent.
- Work independently or with teams while maintaining high professional standards.
- Willingness to travel for surveys, inspections, and testing while adhering to safety protocols.
- Practical understanding of electrical safe systems of work.
