Principal EICA Design Engineer (Water Sector)
Senior/Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation Engineers (EICA) – Regulated Water Asset Design Team
Location: UK & International Industry: Water Infrastructure, Municipal Water & Wastewater
About the Role

Our Regulated Water Asset Design team delivers expertise across wastewater treatment, water treatment, sewerage, and water networks—working directly with leading water companies (Severn Trent Water, Southwest Water) and blue-chip contractors (Costain, Galliford Try) to execute large-scale infrastructure projects.
We’re recruiting Senior/Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation Engineers (EICA) to support the AMP8 water capital works programme. This role offers diverse challenges in UK and global projects—from concept design to delivery, engaging across exploratory into commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll work autonomously and collaboratively to deliver high-impact technical solutions for critical water projects. Core duties include:
- Deliver EICA design for infrastructure schemes, ensuring alignment with sector standards, safety regulations, and equipment specifications.
- Prepare/review technical deliverables, including:
- Technical specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, schedules
- Control philosophies, user requirement specifications (URS) for Azure or full process control packages
- Network architecture drawings for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)/process control
- Work on tender evaluations, market studies, and procurement strategies for clients.
- Participate in consulting on explosive atmosphere equipment (understanding DSEAR, compliance with ATEX regulations), construction monitoring, utilising a variety of tools including IED/LOGIX platforms.
- Deliver factory acceptance tests for panel, PLC/HMI applications, and SCADA simulation modules.
- Drive innovation in electrical engineering and provide subject matter expertise.
- Mentor and support junior EICA prepare staff.

Requirements & Qualifications
Technical Expertise Needed
- A degree (IET-accredited) in electrical/control/automation engineering or equivalent, e.g., professional registration with the Engineering Council (as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer).
- Extensive expertise in EICA design for water/wastewater projects, including:
- Handling technical packages, URS, and specs for process control systems.
- Mastery of standards like DSEAR, electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres, and EU machine regulations.
- Hands-on experience in implementing safe systems and tools such as logic Create PLS/PLC-capable systems.
Professional Skills
- Exceptional client and stakeholder-facing abilities, with a drive for collaboration.
- Proactive, self-directed, and able to adjust to agile environments.
- Field experience—comfortable travelling to construction/work sites to gather data.
- Commitment to safety compliance and emergency-responsibility measuring frequency.
