About the opportunity:

Our Defence and Security provides design and engineering services for our nuclear and defence clients across the UK and abroad. Our team is experiencing exciting growth and long-term prospects within our established practice, and we are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to design large industrial facilities, e.g. power station buildings, large manufacturing facilities, dockyards, etc. If this is you, then we want to speak with you. We offer hybrid working with 1-2 days in our Glasgow or Reading office. Occasional site visits may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs the assessment, design, and monitors the ongoing process of a project, including the coordination of the project with the project delivery team.
  • Leading/working with a team of EC&I engineers/designers in developing engineering deliverables throughout various stages of the project.
  • Prepares drawings, functional and technical specifications, and contract documents.
  • Performs calculations and evaluations in the design of equipment and systems for industrial applications.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with Safety Case and System Engineering teams.
  • Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
  • Maintains effective communication with clients, project team members, and project delivery team.
  • Responsible for authoring/reviewing/checking on technical deliverables.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the design of HV/LV distribution systems and associated control and protection systems.
  • Experience in LV cable sizing and design and using cable sizing software (AMTECH).
  • Experience in electrical building services design.
  • Experience in a contracting environment, relevant site experience.
  • Willing to travel if/when required.

Desirable

  • Experience in HV distribution and design and using cable sizing software (ETAP).
  • Experience in Fire Alarm and Security systems design.
  • Background in project design/engineering work in a specialist area preferred (Nuclear and Defence Sector).
  • Professionally qualified (e.g. Incorporated/Chartered) Engineer with a degree (preferred but not necessary) in the relevant discipline.
  • Experience of working on Nuclear Safety Implicated systems.
  • Experience in using AutoCAD/Revit software.
  • Demonstrated record of maintaining own skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field.
