Principal Electronics Engineer

AAC Clyde Space is seeking a Principal Electronics Engineer to join our growing team and provide principal-level technical capability within the Electronics team, driving the definition, development, verification, qualification and improvement of spacecraft electronics, electrical architectures and related subsystems within assigned scope.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing necessary technical depth across electronics architecture, high-reliability design, technical risk reduction, mentoring, design review and complex problem resolution, supporting the Electronics Team Leader and project teams with expert technical judgement.

You will be an established Electronics Engineer looking for your next opportunity. This is a hands-on role that collaborates closely with systems, electronics, AIT and project teams to ensure robust and flight-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical authority within assigned scope, supporting delegated engineering design activities for spacecraft electronics and electrical architectures.
  • Provide senior input to spacecraft-level electrical and electronics architecture decisions.
  • Design, review and support electronics hardware activities across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Conduct senior-level design reviews, investigations, NCRs, ECNs, risk assessments and decision records, ensuring DFX requirements are addressed throughout.
  • Advise on complex design issues including EMC, signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, shielding, reliability, manufacturability and testability.
  • Support the Electronics Team Leader by advising Engineering, project and cross-functional teams within assigned scope on technical risk, estimates, approach and issue resolution.
  • Provide accurate technical information and estimates for agreed work plans through company systems and records for leadership to monitor achievement of operational and/or financial plan
  • Support continuous improvement of design quality and engineering efficiency with their associated processes
  • Mentoring and share knowledge within the team to develop capability and maintain high technical standards.

Skills required

  • Relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Significant analogue/digital hardware design experience in high-reliability environments in regulated environment
  • Practical understanding of electronics design, verification, qualification and production release
  • Good understanding of EMC, reliability, manufacturability, testability, fault investigation and technical risk
  • Working knowledge of spacecraft electrical interfaces, including power, RF, digital, analogue, communications and harnessing
  • Experience with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, embedded interfaces, hardware/software interface definition, ADCs, DC/DC converters and LDOs
  • Proven experience guiding complex designs from concept through verification, release, manufacturing support and issue resolution
  • Experience reviewing schematics, PCB layouts, manufacturing/release packs, test evidence, NCRs and ECNs
  • Maintain practical application of DFM, DFT, DFA, reliability and configuration-control considerations
  • Proven ability to provide guidance, mentoring, supplier support and cross-functional technical advice within assigned scope.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal abilities for professional settings and standards.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and projects in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft software.
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written.

Skills desired

  • Previous experience in the space industry or another regulated environment
  • Experience with spacecraft electrical architectures, subsystem interfaces and controlled baselines
  • Specialist experience in power, battery, RF, onboard computing, embedded, mixed-signal, high-speed digital or high-reliability analogue electronics
  • Experience using FPGA, HDL, microcontrollers, SDR interfaces or low-level device interfaces
  • Knowledge of C, Python or device-driver considerations
  • Experience in RF electronics, including LNAs, filters, SDR interfacing, impedance matching, shielding and RF PCB layout
  • Experience using EMC, grounding, shielding, harnessing, interface control and verification
  • Experience applying DFMEA, FDIR, reliability, radiation, thermal, vibration or environmental constraints
  • Knowledge of Altium, Cadence OrCAD or equivalent schematic and PCB tools
  • Awareness of ECSS, ESA, NASA, aerospace, defence or equivalent high-reliability processes and regulations
