Role description
At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for a Principal Engineer - Fuel Systems to be based at our office in Warwick.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role
This role provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise in automotive fuel systems within customer programs. The incumbent will act as the Fuel Systems SME, supporting the design, development, integration, validation, and delivery of fuel storage and fuel delivery systems for ICE, MHEV, and HEV vehicle applications.
The role requires close collaboration with customer engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing plants, validation teams, and global delivery centers to ensure robust, compliant, and cost-effective fuel system solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.
Dimension of Function
Responsible for acting as Fuel Systems Technical SME within customer programs, providing specialist expertise in fuel system architecture, component integration, validation, issue resolution, and regulatory compliance.
Area of Responsibility
- Act as Fuel Systems technical lead and primary customer interface for fuel system-related activities.
- Lead the engineering development of fuel tanks, filler systems, fuel pumps, fuel lines, vapor management systems, EVAP systems, and associated components.
- Provide technical direction for system architecture, packaging, integration, and functional performance requirements.
- Drive fuel system design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA, and technical maturity reviews.
- Coordinate with validation teams to define and execute DVP&R activities.
- Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis, and resolution of fuel system issues identified during development, testing, launch, or production.
- Ensure compliance with customer, industry, environmental, emissions, and safety regulations.
- Support supplier technical reviews and ensure component delivery meets quality, cost, timing, and performance targets.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams across onsite and offshore delivery locations.
- Support vehicle builds, prototype activities, launch readiness reviews, and production issue resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including cooling, exhaust, body, packaging, electrical, and manufacturing engineering functions.

Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics, or related Engineering discipline.
- Strong automotive engineering experience with significant exposure to Fuel Systems development.
- Strong understanding of fuel tank systems for gasoline, diesel, MHEV, and HEV applications.
- Knowledge of metallic and plastic fuel tank technologies, manufacturing processes, and integration requirements.
- Expertise in EVAP systems, ORVR systems, fuel delivery systems, venting strategies, and emissions compliance requirements.
- Strong knowledge of fuel system packaging, vehicle integration, and interface management.
- Experience in requirements management and systems engineering processes.
- Experience in DFMEA, DVP&R, Design Reviews, and Engineering Sign-Off processes.
- Strong understanding of automotive product development cycles.
- Experience working with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and communicate complex engineering concepts to customers and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause investigation skills.

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of global fuel system regulations and emissions requirements.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP, and launch readiness activities.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and production launch events.
- Knowledge of durability, crash, thermal, vibration, and environmental requirements for fuel systems.
- Experience in Six Sigma, 8D, DMAIC, or structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter, Catia V5/V6, Creo, or equivalent engineering tools.
- Experience leading global engineering teams and technical work packages.
