Role Description
Principal Engineer – Java & Azure
Type: Contract / Fixed-Term Employment
Location: Leeds (Hybrid)
Start Date: ASAP
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native applications and services. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges, influencing architecture decisions, and building high-performing backend platforms from the ground up.
You'll work alongside talented Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams to deliver modern, resilient solutions that operate at scale.

What You'll Do
- Design and build scalable backend services and distributed systems using Java.
- Lead architecture and engineering decisions across cloud-native applications.
- Develop and optimize solutions on Microsoft Azure.
- Drive engineering best practices, performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative products and services.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the development lifecycle.

What You'll Bring
- Extensive experience in Java backend development and distributed systems.
- Strong expertise designing and delivering cloud-native solutions on Azure.
- Proven experience building complex platforms and services from scratch.
- Excellent system design, architecture, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
