Job Title: Principal Software Assurance Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Brough, Frimley, Weymouth, Filton or Portsmouth

Job Description

As a Principal Software Assurance Engineer, you will be responsible for planning and executing assurance activities, reviewing software and system documentation whilst engaging stakeholders to ensure requirements are met. You will be managing risk and reporting alongside applying lifecycle, systems and assurance expertise within a growing role offering broad exposure and further development.

Core Duties

  • You will be working with our customer to agree an acceptable approach to risk elements
  • You will be responsible for planning and carrying out software assurance activities including reviews of plans, processes, witnessing testing, inspections and auditing
  • You will be reviewing software plans, documentation and software aspects of system-level plans and documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • You will be responsible for engaging with System Designers, Software Developers and other engineering disciplines in the design process to ensure that software meets requirements
  • You will be required to document the level of risk, provide evidence and reporting for Senior Management
  • You will be working with a range of stakeholders at all levels to resolve non-conformances and programme risks

Essential Skills

  • You will require a strong grasp of lifecycle principles and a familiarity with various software types, including programmable electronics
  • You will need to have an understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and its relationship to software development
  • Good experience in Software Assurance methods and processes, including audit and review
  • You are required to have an understanding of the application of software engineering, Cyber security, quality and systems and safety software standards

The Software Assurance Team

This is a growing role with significant potential for development and growth. We expect the candidate to quickly understand the development, use and control of software in our complex application, actively involved in decision making and problem resolution for critical design aspects, offering broad exposure and development. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
