Principal Engineer - Software Assurance

Principal Software Assurance Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Brough, Frimley, Weymouth, Filton, or Portsmouth

Salary: Competitive

Job Description

As a Principal Software Assurance Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and executing assurance activities
  • Reviewing software and system documentation
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure requirements are met
  • Managing risk and reporting, while applying lifecycle, systems, and assurance expertise

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers to agree an approach to risk elements
  • Plan and carry out software assurance activities, including:
    • Reviews of plans and processes
    • Witness testing
    • Inspections and audits
  • Review software plans, documentation, and software aspects of system-level plans and documents to provide timely feedback
  • Engage with:
    • System Designers
    • Software Developers
    • Engineering disciplines
    • to ensure software meets requirements
  • Document risk levels, provide evidence, and report findings to Senior Management
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to resolve non-conformances and programme risks

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of software lifecycle principles and various software types, including programmable electronics
  • Familiarity with the systems engineering lifecycle and its relationship to software development
  • Extensive experience in Software Assurance (SA) methods and processes, including audit and review
  • Knowledge of relevant software engineering, cyber security, quality, and system/safety standards
