Senior/Principal Environmental Consultant – Leading Environmental Impact and Sustainability

About the Role

Bring your skills as a Senior/Principal Environmental Consultant, playing a key leadership role in collaborating with clients and design teams across the UK. Our Environment Practice leads innovation, digital transformation, and the path to Net Zero, spanning sectors like aviation, defence, energy, cities, development, education, rail, and water.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate environmental work across multi-disciplinary teams, including:
    • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
    • Options appraisals
    • Environmental management strategies
  • Champion sustainability within engineering projects, directing environmental integration from conception to delivery.
  • Collate, analyse, and produce clear, well-structured technical and report-based deliverables for clients.
  • Maintain high standards, ensuring your own work (and others’) is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.
  • Manage client expectations with confidence, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Translate complex technical details effectively in verbal presentations and written reports.
  • Bid for new business and develop commercial opportunities, contributing to the team’s future growth.
  • Drive professional development, adhering to the requirements of your chosen professional institute.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Master’s in an environmental or natural sciences discipline (Chartership from a recognised institute).
  • Substantial postgraduate experience, preferably in a consultancy setting.
  • Experience in linear infrastructure projects is highly beneficial.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes
    • Technical specialisms, including compliance and mitigation strategies.
  • Leadership experience in multidisciplinary teams (plant, civil, railway, transport, and design professionals).
  • Strong verbal, report-writing, and presentation skills.
  • Confirmatory rapid decision-making and ability to work under pressure.
