Job Title: Principal Finance Business Partner

Function: Finance

Location: Hybrid - within our Nottingham office

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: £65,920 with the potential to rise to £77,553 over 3 years

Closing Date: Wednesday 29th July 2026

NHS Supply Chain currently has an opportunity for a Principal Finance Business Partner to join our team during an exciting period of transformation, working to make it easier for the NHS to put patients first.

The Principal Finance Business Partner works with third party providers, insourced categories and other budget holders to drive astute financial and commercial decisions for complex, multi-million-pound areas of the business.

We are seeking a fully qualified ACCA or CIMA finance professional with significant post-qualification experience, ideally with at least seven years' experience in a senior finance business partnering or similar role. You will be an exceptional stakeholder manager, confident in building strong relationships across all levels of the organisation, providing constructive challenge where required, and influencing decision-making through robust financial insight.

You will have responsibility for reporting and analysing your area of responsibility, driving and supporting the operational business to deliver against financial objectives. You will be required to provide advice to the business on complex issues, provide critical financial input and advice for annual planning, periodic forecasting, as well as long term and scenario planning. The role also provides vital financial input and expertise into strategic business cases, ensuring the financial case is robust and realistic. You will have responsibility for financial contract management of third party providers, ensuring cost efficient service delivery.

Every day you will…

  • Develop business cases or lead feasibility and assessment work for proposed and current projects to support the development and continuous review of business cases.
  • Translate business objectives into clearly defined business cases, costs, and schedules to support growth in the business.
  • Provide specialist financial decision support to senior management, resolving complex or contentious queries and issues and enabling others to take appropriate actions.
  • Manage a segment of the organisation's data collection and analysis activities.
  • Develop and deliver financial guidelines and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
  • Travel to NHS Supply Chain and stakeholder locations as required to support business partnering activities, stakeholder engagement, and operational objectives.

  • Fully qualified ACCA or CIMA accountant.
  • At least seven years' experience in a senior finance business partnering or similar finance role, with responsibility for complex budgets and financial decision support.
  • Extensive experience in determining and analysing trends from data that is collected to assist in compiling reports that will help in decision-making.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to build strong, credible relationships, influence senior leaders, and confidently challenge where necessary.
  • Works with full competence to review and evaluate recommendations and requirements and to develop appropriate plans or deliver actions required.
  • Demonstrates to an advanced level an ability to analyse potential solutions and create recommendations based on the expected benefits, costs, and overall value of the solution for key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communicator with proven ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.
  • Proficient in estimating and managing the effort and finances to complete the work within budget.
  • Interprets and applies key financial indicators to make better business decisions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required to support stakeholders and business objectives.
