Summary of vacancy
Here at SUEZ recycling and recovery UK we have an opportunity for an experienced Fire Engineer to play an integral role to ensure the safety of our employees and assets across the UK.
The role will ensure SUEZ comply with the relevant statutory provisions imposed, including regulatory and technical standards, the requirements of our permits, licences and similar permissions, alongside best practice. The post holder will implement practical and effective fire risk management solutions primarily to preserve life, mitigate environmental impacts, and protect our assets.

About The Role
What will I be doing?
Establish minimum standard Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) ensuring they are carried out in accordance with the Regulatory Reform Order 2005, and Fire Prevention Plan guidance. Lead on setting internal fire related standards (technical specifications), policies, procedures and forms. Ensure these are suitable and specific to facility type. Investigate fire related incidents, identifying trends and highlighting targeted intervention strategies to mitigate future events. Ensure any proposals/recommendations follow SMART criteria. Provide comprehensive fire engineering support throughout all construction projects or management of change processes from initial design through to operation ensuring current standards and codes of practice are used throughout the project/change lifecycle. Identify, manage and quality assure suppliers used in association with fire management. Work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders including Operations, Health & Safety, Environment and Industrial Risk, Insurance and Audit to develop internal standards and ensure consistent application of best practice is deployed across our portfolio. Liaise with and maintain good relations with clients, design teams, approval bodies and industry experts. Participate in industry events and contribute to raising standards within our sector. Review various internal/external data sources to build sustainable fire strategies against the mission and purpose of the role. Communicate with externally appointed providers on SUEZ requirements such as fire system engineering design surveys and challenge reports received to ensure correct specification/cost.

What are the requirements?
The role will involve travel across the UK, so you must hold a current UK driving licence Understanding of industry specific guidance and standards such as WISH28 and FPP. Have acquired substantial relevant experience in Fire Safety Engineering design within a service oriented business and be able to demonstrate proven results in applying technical understanding ie. project showcase. Can lead on the assessment of fire related issues and technical risks by the application of expert knowledge and understanding of UK Fire Safety and Environmental Legislation, Building Regulations, and other associated codes and standards. Proficient at reading and interpreting building/machinery plans, with suitable knowledge to identify inconsistencies or risks relating to electrical safety standards, sprinkler systems, fire safety regulations, and so on. Use specific criteria to assess existing fore protection levels and make informed recommendations of any retrofitting requirements to existing infrastructure with sound justification.
