Requirements

We are looking for a talented and collaborative Principal Flood Modeller who shares our purpose and desire to make a positive difference to the world around them. Sustainable design is at the heart of our Practice and collectively we can create inspirational designs that will protect our climate and enhance the built environment.

As a Principal Flood Modeller, you will be a key figure within Civic's Scotland studios, your remit will cover a range of technical, management and commercial/client-facing activities. You will be part of a growing team of flood modellers and flood risk practitioners working on projects throughout Scotland, England and Ireland.

Key elements of the job

Leading the delivery of flood Risk Assessments, Hydrological Assessments and Drainage Strategies Contributing to the effective design of flood alleviation schemes Managing projects and maintaining client relationships Assisting with winning work and the development of new business within the flooding sector Providing technical guidance, support and training to junior colleagues and assisting, where practicable, in the mentoring and development of others You will get the opportunity to work on interesting and varied flood, coastal and maritime projects for our clients including Local Authorities and private developers across Scotland, England & Ireland Supports our clients to manage water, flooding and the coastal environment in a sustainable and innovative way Co-ordinates, quality assures and leads the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments, Surface Water Management Plans and hydrological assessments Supervises and mentors junior staff, managing small teams of staff on a project and supervisory basis

Qualifications

A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water & Environmental Management, or another related discipline A chartered engineer with CIWEM or ICE Proven experience of 1D-2D modelling using Infoworks ICM or Flood Modeller Significant experience in carrying out flood risk analyses for planning, design purposes Acknowledged professional profile in flood risk / hydrological assessment with a working knowledge of UK/Ireland hydrology guidance and regulations GIS analytical skills in ArcGIS and QGIS Demonstrable experience co-ordinating, quality assuring and undertaking feasibility assessments, optioneering and outline and detailed design packages of work and producing engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and business case reports Experience managing projects and ability to monitor and deliver work to the agreed budget, programme, and scope Commercial awareness, including tendering for flood and coastal work Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complicated technical information to our clients in a clear and transparent way Experience managing/ supervising junior staff Experience in quality assurance (QA) processes, including the checking of others' outputs

Is this you?

Degree qualified you will ideally be Chartered or Incorporated with an industry institution such as ICE or CIWEM and have strong relevant experience with a proven track record of delivering projects. You'll be a creative thinker, passionate and enthusiastic to help grow and develop your team. Your collaborative and helpful outlook will thrive within this innovative practice making a positive impact to the built environment.
