Principal Food Scientist
Principal Food Scientist – Southwest England
📍 Location: Southwest England 💷 Salary: Competitive Salary + Bonus + Excellent Package ⏰ Contract: Full Time | Site-Based (5 Days Per Week)
SRG are supporting an exciting, innovative company in recruiting a Principal Food Scientist to lead an advanced research programme focused on how food processing methods impact food and beverage products.
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced food scientist with strong expertise in:
- Food processing
- Food chemistry
- Analytical techniques
You will design and deliver investigative research to understand how processing conditions influence product functionality, stability, and performance. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and lead high-impact food science research with long-term technical and leadership progression.

The Role
- Develop and lead an investigative food science research programme focused on processing and treatment methods
- Design and deliver experimental testing to assess both physical and chemical product changes
- Generate insight across processing techniques, including:
- Frying
- Roasting
- Baking
- Blending
- Mixing
- Apply food chemistry principles, such as:
- Oxidation
- Hydration
- Ingredient interactions
- Use a range of analytical techniques to evaluate product behaviour and performance
- Translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights
- Work cross-functionally to support innovation and technical decision making
- Manage your own research priorities, planning, and delivery
About You
- Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related discipline
- Strong industry experience in:
- Food science
- Food processing
- Product development
- Deep understanding of how processing conditions affect food properties
- Strong knowledge of:
- Both physical and chemical analytical approaches
- Designing and leading scientifically robust research programmes
- Confident communicator, able to engage:
- Technical stakeholders
- Non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a highly hands-on, site-based environment
