Job Title: Principal Human Factors Consultant

About the Role
The Principal Human Factors Consultant will deliver specialised workstreams and contribute expertise to bids and projects across SYSTRA. The role demands a deep understanding of human factors standards, best practices, and practical application in real-world scenarios.

- Contribute to the creation, review, and issuance of client deliverables with full support
- Act as a subject-matter expert in human factors, both internally (within SYSTRA) and externally
- Maintain the latest industry and company-standard competencies
- Implement safety procedures and systems to safeguard staff, the public, and other stakeholders
- Ensure operational safety systems enhance overall project security
- Support the workstream owner with high-quality technical deliverables

Profile & Essential Skills
Key Competencies:
- Systems Human Factors approach
- Human factors integration and assurance across the entire project lifecycle
- User-centred design methodology for project delivery
- Human error & human reliability analysis (e.g., fault trees, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HazID))
- Conducting qualitative and quantitative research to identify user requirements, including:
- Workshop facilitation
- Focus groups
- Interviews & questionnaires
- Observational analysis
- Methods for assessing impacts of change, such as:
- Task analysis
- “Day in the Life of” (DITLO) evaluations
- Holistic understanding of performance- and safety-shaping factors within complex systems

Education & Professional Accreditation:
- BSc/BEng degree in a relevant discipline
- Chartered status (or pursuing it) with a recognised professional body, e.g., IET or CIEHF
- Active membership in a relevant professional association (e.g., IET, CIEHF)
Industry Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in the relevant specialism
