Job Description Summary

We are looking for a Principal HVDC Transmission Transformer Design Engineer (Electrical) to join the HVDC Transformer Centre of Excellence in Stafford, UK, bringing deep technical knowledge in transformer electrical and mechanical design, typically gained in 10/15 years of experience.

In this key role, you will ensure that our transformer products are developed in accordance with the highest standards in design, quality, and manufacturing.

Reporting directly to the Site Leader, you will be responsible for identifying and mitigating design risks early in the process, ensuring robust and reliable solutions for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) applications that support the global green energy transition.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical support on FAT and Site issues
  • Technical communication with customers and suppliers to present and discuss our analysis with compelling arguments.
  • Technical support factory on design and material related issues
  • Design review Leadership to ensure the product is designed according to design, quality & manufacturing best practices, and that the specific risks are properly identified and addressed.
  • Support on ensuring that the design is properly transferred to manufacturing.
  • Ensuring that our design process fully meets the quality gates and applicable quality controls.
  • Ensure and support the proper execution of the Design Quality Gates and Controls in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Analyze quality data to determine effective corrective actions and monitor improvements over time.
  • Ensuring that lessons learned are identified and implemented in future designs.
  • Continuously update our manufacturing capabilities and tolerances and ensures they are properly considered in the design.
  • Support the introduction of new designs in manufacturing.
  • Ensuring CTQ formal identification and implementation.
  • Lead standardization and modularization efforts.
  • Research improvements in the industry to identify best solutions to continuously improve our designs.

Skills And Experience Requirements

  • Deep technical knowledge in transformer electrical (transmission) and mechanical design.
  • Extensive Transmission Transformer Manufacturing knowledge and experience.
  • Significant and demonstrated years of experience working within HVDC projects, typically gained in 10/15 years
  • Demonstrated experience in FEA Analysis.
  • Extensive continuous improvement and quality process knowledge and experience.
  • Solid knowledge and experience on Site and FAT issues, RCA, DFMEA, Testing, Standardization and Modularization.
  • Focus on Quality excellence and early risk identification and mitigation.
  • Exceptional communicator and relationship-builder with a creative, innovative, and forward-thinking mindset, strong attention to detail, and a proactive, problem-solving approach.
