Principal Infrastructure / DevOps / Platform Operations Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Infrastructure / DevOps / Platform Operations Engineer to lead the design, automation, and operation of modern cloud infrastructure and container platforms. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Kubernetes platform engineering, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining Terraform-based infrastructure, managing enterprise Kubernetes/OpenShift environments, and driving engineering best practices across platform operations and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code best practices.
  • Build, automate, and manage cloud-native infrastructure supporting Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms.
  • Ensure platform reliability, scalability, security, and resilience.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational tooling.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and platform issues across development, test, and production environments.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to improve application deployment, observability, and operational processes.
  • Drive DevOps practices, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.
  • Contribute to infrastructure architecture and technology strategy.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience developing Terraform infrastructure and reusable modules.
  • Strong understanding of Linux systems administration.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, DNS, load balancing, ingress controllers, certificates, and security.
  • Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions (e.g. Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Splunk).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across the OSI Model Layers
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) Hosted Control Planes (HCP) and IBM Cloud Pak for Data
  • Good programming skills in one or more languages such as Go, Python, Java, or Bash.
  • Understanding and practical experience of Extreme Programming (XP) practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience working in highly regulated or enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated implementation of security, compliance, and infrastructure governance.

  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native platform engineering.
  • A strong operational mindset with a focus on resilience, observability, and automation.
  • The ability to influence technical direction while remaining hands-on with implementation

This role is ideal for a Principal engineer who thrives in modern cloud environments and enjoys building highly automated, resilient platforms using Terraform. Experience with Red Hat ROSA HCP and a software engineering mindset, including programming and XP/TDD practices, will be highly advantageous.
