Principal Intelligence Analyst
Open to full-time or part-time (Monday to Friday) Location – 4 days office-based (Swindon or Melksham) with flexibility for homeworking
We’re looking for a Principal Intelligence Analyst to lead our analytical, research, and intelligence teams, shaping how Wiltshire Police understands crime, tackles harm, and protects the most vulnerable.
This senior role suits those who enjoy solving problems, leading teams, and converting complex information into clear and actionable insights that fundamentally change policing approaches.
About the Role
As the Principal Intelligence Analyst, you’ll direct our analytical and research teams, ensuring Wiltshire Police has the intelligence needed to:
- Understand emerging crime patterns
- Respond effectively to threats
- Protect vulnerable individuals
Your role ensures smart, well-informed decisions by wired decision-makers—impacting strategic Alliance enforcement and valuable offences.
Key influence areas:
- Allocation of resources
- Tackling serious threats (e.g., organised crime)
- Protecting victims and safeguarding the public
You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team, foster their professional growth, and ensure data integrity, accuracy, and relevance in targeting critical responses.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis team – manage performance, development, and training.
- Turn intelligence into action – analyse trends and risks to provide actionable insights.
- Support investigations – deliver high-quality, evidential analysis to secure prosecutions.
- Identify major intelligence priorities – detect PATTERNS, organised criminal networks, and threats impacting communities.
- Develop strategic products – create reports shaping Wiltshire Police’s priorities and control strategy.
- Engage with senior leadership – advise Chief Officers and Department Heads on tactical and strategic decisions.
- Optimise processes – drive improvements in systems, methodologies, and analytical tools.

Essential Requirements
| Skill/Qualification | Requirements |
|---|---|
| Formal Qualification | Degree-level qualification or equivalent managerial experience in analytical roles. |
| Specialist Certifications | NIAT (National Intelligence Academy Training) certified. |
| IPP Minimum Senior Analyst Certification required. | |
| Experience | Proven success in both operational and strategic analysis. |
| Management experience in policing or related fields. | |
| Research & Reporting | Demonstrated experience in analysing statistical data, writing reports, and making presentations. |
| Professional Presentation | Ability to represent the Force actively, both in formal and informal settings. |
