Principal Java Engineer
Principal Java Developer - RE Partners
(Global Consulting Firm, London, Hybrid Role)
About the Role
We are a fast-growing, bias-towards-action business and technology consulting firm co-founded in 2019. Specialising in engineering consultancy tailored beyond "one-size-fits-all" solutions, we partner with Fortune 500 clients and industry leaders to deliver comprehensive digital transformation vision.
Seeking a Principal Java Engineer to join our high-performance team, working with high-throughput, low-latency systems in the payments processing sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and perpetually optimise core backend systems using Java.
- Build, maintain, and scale RESTful APIs and microservices for secure real-time payment flows.
- Specialize in transaction protocols, messaging standards, and financial data pipelines.
- Deploy and operate at cloud scale on Red Hat OpenShift and AWS (with ECS, EKS, Lambda, etc.).
- Integrate robustly with MongoDB (and complementing NoSQL/SQL) concerns for real-time data management.
- Partner cross-functionally with DevOps, Product, and QA teams to ensure resilient production deployments.
- Advocate and implement architectural best practices, including performance tuning and failure modes.
- Mentor peers and drive tangible engineering excellence in highly opinionated workflows.

Technical Requirements
Non-Negotiable: ✔ 10+ years in Java development with rigorous focus on performance iteration (memory optimisation, concurrency, etc.). ✔ Proficiency in Spring frameworks, Spring Boot, and microservices patterns. ✔ Costume-craft You proprie solutions. Hands-on expertise with:
- Low-latency KPIs (< 1ms: welcome, pref.)
- Redis/Kubernetes/OpenShift deployment
- AWS profiling tooling (e.g. EC2, Lambda, S3, ECS, etc.) ✔ Unbeatable written and verbal team dynamics, plus a swift bias-towards-vinqo structreuseur (we finish what we start). ✔ Experimental problem-structuring & opinionated decision-making.

Nice-to-Haves:
- Messaging re estrategia (ex: Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ).
- Payment stack and/or SWIFT-ISO20022 familiarity.
- Confident with: TLS industry security, threat modelling, specialist telemetry.
