Principal Java Engineer

Principal Java Developer - RE Partners

(Global Consulting Firm, London, Hybrid Role)

About the Role

We are a fast-growing, bias-towards-action business and technology consulting firm co-founded in 2019. Specialising in engineering consultancy tailored beyond "one-size-fits-all" solutions, we partner with Fortune 500 clients and industry leaders to deliver comprehensive digital transformation vision.

Seeking a Principal Java Engineer to join our high-performance team, working with high-throughput, low-latency systems in the payments processing sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and scale RESTful APIs and microservices for secure real-time payment flows.
  • Specialize in transaction protocols, messaging standards, and financial data pipelines.
  • Deploy and operate at cloud scale on Red Hat OpenShift and AWS (with ECS, EKS, Lambda, etc.).
  • Integrate robustly with MongoDB (and complementing NoSQL/SQL) concerns for real-time data management.
  • Partner cross-functionally with DevOps, Product, and QA teams to ensure resilient production deployments.
  • Advocate and implement architectural best practices, including performance tuning and failure modes.
  • Mentor peers and drive tangible engineering excellence in highly opinionated workflows.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
