Principal or Lead Systems Engineer – Naval Systems (CEMA & ICS)
Your Impact
Are you a Systems Engineer passionate about contributing to the UK’s Defence Industry and delivering impactful change?
We’re seeking a Principal or Lead Systems Engineer to provide technical support within Leonardo’s Cyber and Electro Magnetic Activities (CEMA) and Integrated Communication Systems (ICS) business group, specialising in Naval Systems.
Within the Naval Systems Integrated Project Team (IPT), you’ll engage in diverse and exciting projects—from long-standing core products to technological demonstrators and research. - Verify compliance with performance, legislative, and contractual requirements while compiling evidence for Certificates of Design or Declaration of Design Performance.
- Execute qualitative trade-offs ensuring robustness in quality, performance, cost, and timescales.
- Provide technical leadership, risk evaluation, and mitigation strategies for systems/sub-systems.
- Mentor and lead junior team members to optimise design programmes and product outcomes.
- Manage and communicate issues/opportunities to the Systems Design Authority (SDA).
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
