About the Role Altrad seeks a Principal Lifting Engineer to provide specialist technical expertise in lifting operations and support teams across the business with engineering solutions.
Key Deliverables
Support lifting operations and project requirements with technical consulting and engineering solutions -Prepare and review Lift Plans and Lifting Risk Assessments per regulatory/company standards -Provide technical expertise to operational teams & projects -Ensure rigorous structural assessments for lifting operations (aligned with industry standards) -Comply with engineering best practices, procedures, and standards
Participate in incident investigations and maintain competence through continuous professional development Provide mentorship to engineers & operational teams on lifting engineering best practices
Support recruitment, development, and retention of competent engineering talent Drive continuous improvement in lifting engineering processes & procedures

Foster relationships with internal stakeholders, project teams & operational personnel Execute contracted engineering activities to meet project & business targets
Act as Technical Authority for Lifting where required Deputise for Lead Engineer or Discipline Manager as needed
Key Requirements
- Extensive experience in lifting engineering (minimum 10 years) and industrial environments
- Strong understanding of British & international lifting standards, including LOLER, PUWER, and HASAWA
- Hands-on expertise in:
- Preparing Lift Plans & Risk Assessments
- Designing/assessing lifting equipment (e.g., spreader beams, lugs, trunion mounts)
- Conducting load CoG calculations and equipment selection
- Degree in Engineering (BEng/MEng/MSc) preferred, with Chartered Engineer status or intent
- Leadership skills for collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management in multidisciplinary teams
