About the Role

As the Principal Material Artist, you will be at the forefront of material design and implementation for our AAA Open World Driving Game. Your extensive experience will guide the art team in crafting visually stunning materials that enhance the game world's realism and immerse players in our vibrant universe. You'll set the vision and standards of material artistry, ensuring that all assets adhere to the highest AAA quality.

Key Duties Include

  • Support the master material shaders design process, fostering a high standard of technical practices and artistic excellence in line with project goals.
  • Create and maintain complex Unreal Master Material Shaders.
  • Create PBR photo-realistic textures and Material Instances.
  • Collaborating with the Art Director and other discipline leads to drive the development and innovation of material workflows that maximise visual impact.
  • Establishing best practices for material creation, documentation of workflows, and the development of new tools and techniques
  • Working with Technical Artists and Render Engineers to optimise shader content and ensure performance targets are met
  • Driving research and implementation of advanced material techniques, technologies, and industry standards

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in creating realistic, high-quality PBR materials and Unreal shader creation in high-profile video games
  • Deep understanding of real-time rendering, workflows, and industry standards
  • Expertise in node-based Material authoring in Unreal Editor
  • Experience in creating realistic texture libraries covering extensive material types.
  • Proficiency in development software and rendering tools such as Substance Painter/Designer, Max/Maya/Blender, Reality Capture etc.
  • A passion for problem-solving and pushing artistic boundaries
  • Exceptional organisational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • A highly creative mindset with a passion for problem-solving and pushing artistic boundaries
  • Unreal Engine experience
