Principal Mechanical Critical Systems Engineer

The Team

Principal Engineer – Data Centre Mechanical Engineer Critical Systems | Data Centres Lead the delivery of the world’s most advanced data centre projects

Cundall’s Critical Systems team is delivering some of the most complex and high-profile data centre developments globally. As our workload continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in leading technical delivery, shaping design solutions, and supporting the continued growth of our data centre capability.

You will join a specialist team focused solely on data centres and mission-critical environments. Our work ranges from hyperscale developments and advanced compute campuses through to retrofit upgrades, technical due diligence, and the evolution of global client design standards.

This role is suited to someone with strong technical depth, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to take ownership of complex engineering challenges within a client-focused environment.

The Role

As a Principal Engineer within our Critical Systems team, you will take a leading role in the delivery of complex mechanical design solutions across major data centre projects.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to develop robust, efficient, and technically excellent designs, contributing across all project stages—from concept development through to detailed design and construction support.

This is a hands-on technical role with growing leadership responsibility. You will:

  • Support the development of junior engineers
  • Contribute to project planning
  • Play a key role in maintaining the quality and consistency of design delivery

You will also have the opportunity to engage directly with clients, helping to shape technical strategies and influence project outcomes across both regional and global programmes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
