Principal Mechanical Engineer

Principal Mechanical Engineer – Wastewater Industry (Rickmansworth)

FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to strengthen their team.

Location: Rickmansworth

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, Regional Discipline Lead, and Engineering Manager.
  • Develop cost-effective, buildable design layouts meeting all specification requirements.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to build site/plant 3D models.
  • Deliver project design outputs within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Coordinate outputs across all technical disciplines for seamless integration.
  • Ensure design stage efficiency by working with construction staff and supply chain to promote operability and maintenance-friendly outputs.
  • Follow and improve departmental procedures and processes.
  • Adhere to regulations, including CDM 2015, health & safety, and wastewater compliance.
  • Chair Operability & Maintenance workshops with clients to refine solutions.
  • Supervise and mentor team members, fostering staff development.
  • Minimise waste across departmental activities.
  • Promote environmental considerations in all designs.
  • Support strategies to maintain customer satisfaction (internal & external).

Requirements

Experience & Knowledge

  • Proven experience in engineering principles, including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of water and sewage treatment plant design.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or membership of a professional institution required.
  • Relevant engineering degree.
  • Ability to rationalise designs and produce cost-effective plant layouts.
  • Strong grasp of CDM 2015 regulatory responsibilities.
  • Industry standard compliance: BS, WIMES, BSRIA, HSE regulations (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR), and water quality regulations (The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016, DWI requirements).
  • Valid driving licence.
