Principal Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Location:

Preferred Northwest of England and Yorkshire. Remote working with frequent office and client site visits.

Contract Type:

Permanent, full time.

What this role requires:

  • A general understanding of water and sewage treatment processes and the associated equipment/system requirements.
  • Experience in drainage design including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS).
  • Knowledge of industry standard drainage networks design.
  • Competence in the use of AutoCAD
  • Proven track record in coordinating and delivering technically excellent projects on time and to budget.
  • First class written and oral communication skills.
  • A natural curiosity for developing innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for our clients.
  • Experience of team working on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Sound commercial understanding.
  • Team builder, developing the technical excellence of our team.
  • Able to develop and motivate others.
  • Proven record of developing client relationships.
  • Attained or working towards relevant professional qualification.

Examples of work types

  • Site surveys and assessments of the capacity of the plant to meet future demands.
  • Feasibility, outline, and detailed mechanical design, including P&IDs, hydraulic design, design risk assessments, control philosophies, commissioning strategies, cost and programme estimations, plant and equipment specifications and carbon calculations.
  • Technical report writing at all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Liaison with clients within the UK.
  • Production of general arrangement drawings and detail mechanical design drawings.
  • Support and/or lead bids, fee proposals or offers of service; development of activity schedules/work plans.
  • Understanding of DSEAR, CDM, WIMES, British and European Standards and other statutory, regulatory, and non-regulatory provisions and guidance.
  • Participation in Hazard Studies including HAZOP, DSEAR and Access, Lifting and Maintenance.
  • Development of standard and bespoke design solutions for the water industry and beyond.
  • Check and review calculations and reports prepared by others.
  • Considering CAPEX and OPEX implications of design decisions at all stages of a project.
  • Secondments to support key clients and business partners.

Desirable Skills/Attributes

  • Undertaking Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Undertaking Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Assessments.
  • Undertaking DSEAR assessments.
  • HVAC.
