Principal Mechanical Engineer - Water

Mechanical Engineer – Critical Water Infrastructure Transformation

At Jacobs, we push the boundaries of innovation to solve the world’s most pressing challenges—from resilient cities to cutting-edge manufacturing—turning bold ideas into transformative realities.

Your Impact

This is an unprecedented opportunity to lead a newly created role at the heart of the UK’s most significant water sector transformation in decades. If you’re driven by engineering excellence and passionate about making a direct, meaningful difference, this could be your chance to shape the future—for millions.

You’ll work alongside United Utilities, Northumbrian Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, and Anglian Water, delivering high-value, complex Design & Build CAPEX and OPEX programmes across the entire project lifecycle—from early concept development to operational handover. Your influence will ensure innovation, sustainability, and resilience become industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering & Design

    • Mechanical design for critical water and wastewater assets, including pump stations, treatment plants, and infrastructure.
    • Value engineering, optimising buildability and cost-effectiveness for real-world impact.
    • Feasibility studies, detailed design, and commissioning support for large-scale infrastructure.
  • Technical & Documentation

    • High-quality outputs: layouts, specifications, datasheets, and P&IDs (Piping & Instrument Diagrams).
    • Equipment sizing and specification for pumps, valves, screening, dosing, and odor control systems.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
