Principal Mechanical Engineer – Water Industry (South West & Midlands)
The Opportunity

AMP8 is an exciting time for the water industry and for Stantec’s role within it. With record levels of investment and our ongoing growth plans in the region, there is significant scope within our engineering teams.
To continue supporting our vital work across the water industry, we are now seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to work in the South West or Midlands. This role can be based at:
- South West: Bristol, Cardiff, or Exeter
- Midlands: Birmingham, Derby, or Redditch
Key Responsibilities
You will be integral to the full project lifecycle:
- Feasibility and optioneering
- Detailed design of mechanical systems
- Construction support (including site surveys and investigations)
- Leading mechanical design across:
- Water/wastewater treatment plants
- Conveyance systems
- Pumping stations
- Other infrastructure/non-infrastructure projects

Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with project managers, technical leaders, designers, clients, contractors, planners, and stakeholders.
- Deliver exceptional project outcomes through technical expertise.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering team growth.
- Opportunity to take on line management responsibilities for the right candidate.

About You
Education & Certification
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent credentials (or working toward them).
Experience
- Proven mastery of detailed mechanical design in the water industry.
- Experience working with delivery contractors is beneficial.
- Line management experience will be recognised positively (if available).
