About the Role: The Principal Medical Writer (PMW) is responsible for the production of high-quality medical content written to a consistently high standard that is aligned with client’s communication objectives and is delivered both on time and to budget. The PMW confidently incorporates strategic direction on assigned accounts and is the acknowledged go-to contact for in-depth knowledge of select therapy areas. Principal Medical Writers generously share their time and knowledge throughout their account team, particularly with scientific teammates, giving constructive feedback to help develop medical writing skills. This exciting new PMW role offers a mix of Publications Planning/Strategy and Medical Affairs projects for a global, high-profile multi-indication Oncology product in the Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) class. Key Responsibilities: Communication Provide regular feedback to senior teams across accounts and projects Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly to different audiences through a variety of media (print and digital) Identify and communicate important updates and any medical/regulatory milestones to the team Provide additional insight into writing styles, content inclusion, data interpretation and subsequent actions based on previous experience Project Delivery Able to write across multiple projects and accounts simultaneously, whilst monitoring team output Consistently deliver client-ready deliverables across a wide range of projects Work closely with the wider team to lead and drive projects, providing expert content development support Demonstrate full compliance with internal processes and lead adherence to best practices across teams, setting the example for junior team members to follow Support the senior team by taking the lead on multi-writer projects, assisting with scientific and communications reviewing Partner with client services teams in forecasting and resource planning Provide feedback on scientific components of budget development Contribute to and support the evolution of best practices and processes, ensuring maximum efficiency Enter time and submit expenses by the deadlines set, using appropriate job codes Scientifically Savvy Independently produce consistently high-level content Share in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry standards and compliance to support the wider team Provide scientific leadership on assigned accounts, including implementing detailed strategic direction Demonstrate a high degree of scientific and commercial knowledge and insights across all activities Maintain an excellent and in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry standards and compliance, acting as role model for others to learn from Business Development Participate in business development initiatives with both existing and potential clients when required Collaboration and building relationships Establish and maintain excellent scientific relationships/communications with clients, third-party suppliers, key opinion leaders and medical experts to help develop high-quality content Establish and maintain excellent working relationships within and across departments, attending and contributing to briefing/internal discussions when required Developing Talent Oversee the work of and provide clear direction to junior scientific service colleagues, delegating responsibilities and tasks where appropriate to provide experience, growth and knowledge transfer Review copy and provide helpful and clear constructive feedback to junior team members Ask team members (across all levels) for feedback, and proactively implement learnings Own responsibility for your personal development, regularly looking for other ways to learn and grow professionally by maximising exposure to new opportunities, making the most of training and requesting training as required Taking the Initiative Own responsibility for your personal development, regularly looking for other ways to learn and grow professionally by maximising exposure to new opportunities, making the most of training and requesting training as required. Undertake tasks outside of the specifics of the job description where business reasons require it Skills and Experience: Essential Educated to degree level in a relevant science subject or 5+ years’ experience as a Medical Writer in a medical communications agency or similar environment Extensive medical writing experience in a medical communications agency or similar environment with demonstrated proficiency writing for Publications Planning & Strategy and Medical Affairs deliverables Proficient in using Microsoft Office programmes (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) Have an excellent command of the English language in both written and verbal communications Desirable Experience writing in Oncology in a medical communications agency or industry A keen interest in working and developing scientific expertise across a range of deliverables and therapy areas Ability to travel If there is anything in this ad that appeals to you, but your experience doesn’t match the criteria, please get in touch with us anyway as we’d love to hear from you.
