Principal Medical Writer – Learning & Development
Remote (UK-based) – Occasional meet-ups in London or Salisbury, plus client meetings as required.

We’re seeking a Principal Medical Writer to join our experienced Learning & Development (L&D) team, designing scientific training materials for healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical teams. About the Role
As a Principal Medical Writer, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing high-quality eLearning content, workshops, infographics, and multimedia materials while guiding junior writers, implementing strategic marketing, and shaping the future of pharma training.
Key Responsibilities

Content Leadership:
- Review content written by colleagues, offering expert feedback and making final decisions on direction
- Lead client discussions (written/proposed formats, messaging, and project plans)

Strategic Input:
- Contribute to proposal writing and project direction, ensuring the L&D team delivers best-in-class learning solutions

Content Creation:
- Develop engaging, clear, and medically accurate learning materials:
- eLearning modules
- Interactive workshops and instructor-led training
- Infographics, videos, podcasts, and other multimedia assets

- Team Management & Collaboration:
- Line manage and mentor junior medical writers in the team
- Reference materials meticulously and facilitate peer-reviewed quality checks
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5–8 years of professional medical writing experience, ideally in healthcare communications agencies
- Proven expertise in translating scientific findings for non-specialist audiences (HCPs, pharma teams, patients)
- Exceptional written communication skills with a strong command of clarity, tone, and engagement
- **Experience with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate360, Captivate) and multimedia content production
- Strong preferred references management skills (ISO 27083, ICH E6)
- Confidence as a subject-matter expert, capable of reviewing and critiquing peers’ work constructively
- Proven line-management experience, with experience leading or mentoring writers
- Passion for learning theory and adult education principles to maximise effectiveness of content
Nice-to-Have
- Familiarity with pharma SEP (Safety Extension Periods) or other compliance-heavy regulatory environments
- Experience in grant-funded healthcare projects
- Exceptional research and critical-thinking skills
- Interest in keeping up with industry trends and implementing innovative training solutions
