Principal MRI Radiographer
Principal MRI Radiographer – East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust
About the Role
We are seeking a PrincipalMRI Radiographer to lead, research, and deliver outstanding MRI services that demonstrate our commitment to patient-centred excellence.
In this role, you will:
- Lead MRI research, audit, and development initiatives.
- Provide expert clinical care with a focus on optimal image quality and patient safety.
- Collaborate with MR Lead Clinicians and specialist radiologists to challenge current best practices and incorporate innovative techniques.
- Train and educate radiographers and healthcare professionals on MRI safety, protocols, and advancements.
- Act as a key resource for MRIs in radiotherapy, particularly at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
Additionally, you will hold responsibility as Deputy Superintendent Radiographer and serve as the MRI Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, statutes, and Health & Safety regulations.
Salary & Benefits
- High-Cost Area Supplement: 15% (minimum £4,870, maximum £6,137 pa, pro-rata).

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice & Leadership
- Deliver expert patient care for MRI scans, maintaining stringent clinical standards.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality imaging with efficiency and compassion.
- Mentor, train, and supervise junior radiographers in MRI services.
- Provide effective professional communication, including presenting research and lecturing externally.
Research & Service Development
- Develop and refine complex MRI scanning protocols, including post-processing techniques.
- Conduct audits, clinical governance, risk management, and quality assurance evaluations.
- Lead newly established MRI service within radiotherapy, building connections between diagnostic and treatment imaging.
Safety & Compliance
- Oversee MRI safety protocols, ensuring adherence to MHRA guidelines, GDPR, Local Radiation Rules, IRR(ME)R, IRR99, and Health & Safety policies.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Qualified MRI Radiographer with registration as a Specialist Diagnostic Practitioner in MRI.
- Experience in research, audit, and clinical coordination relevant to MRI advancement.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor teams.
- Explore and implement advanced MRI techniques, promoting innovation in service development.
- Exceptional communication skills with expertise in translating complex research findings to diverse audiences.
