As a Principal Waste Consultant within AECOM’s growing Nuclear team, you’ll engage with diverse international and UK-focused projects across the project lifecycle—from client consultancy to full turn-key solutions. This role focuses on client-facing tasks, bid preparation, and project oversight, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
We’re seeking self-driven professionals with a passion for radioactive waste management, who can execute work independently and collaboratively. Ideal candidates should have expertise in:
- UK nuclear sites and Site Licence Companies
- Operating or studying waste management facilities
- Consulting and project management experience
- Nuclear decommissioning or related studies
- Optioneering (exploring strategies for long-term solutions)
- Regulator engagement

Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Technical delivery across diverse projects
- Project and task management (technical, quality, and financial tracking)
- Mentoring junior team members to ensure growth
- Collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and AECOM leaders to meet deadlines, budgets, and quality goals
- Balancing multiple proposals and projects simultaneously
- Developing costed proposals and business development materials
- Building client relationships for recurring partnerships
- Expanding AECOM’s internal visibility and networking
- Supporting leadership in securing new opportunities (internal and external)
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong initiative to drive projects under own direction
- A desire for technical excellence in waste management solutions
- Commercial awareness for bids and financial planning
- Proficient English communication and strong numeracy skills
Desirable experience includes:
- Environmental permits and compliance
- Waste-informed decommissioning strategy development
- Site end-state management
- Radioactive waste regulations and HAW (Higher Active Waste)
- NORM (Natural Occurring Radioactive Material) management
- Radioactive Waste Advisor knowledge
Autonomy and motivation are critical: You must thrive in a collaborative team, work under tight deadlines, and foster commitment in a fast-paced environment.
Security Clearance
Conditional on employment: The position requires adherence to UK security clearance requirements to participate in projects at AECOM.
