Principal Officer in Public Protection Partnership
West Berkshire Council & Bracknell Forest
Are you an experienced environmental health professional looking to take the next step in your career?
West Berkshire Council is seeking a Principal Officer to join our Public Protection Partnership service across Bracknell Forest and West Berkshire. Reporting to the Strategic Manager, you will play a key role in leading and managing the community team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to our local community.
About the Role
As the Principal Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing a team of dedicated professional officers
- Ensuring effective investigation and enforcement of a wide range of community-based legislation:
- Fundamental public health protection legislation
- Powers under anti-social behaviour regulations
- Providing expert advice and guidance to the community and partners on environmental health-based law
- Using data-driven intelligence to deliver positive outcomes in areas requiring service intervention
- Collaborating with other regulatory services to deliver joined-up enforcement activities
- Managing complex cases, including:
- Attending court proceedings
- Reviewing case files
- Providing support to team members
- Applying strategic assessment to evaluate and plan new initiatives for community benefit
- Reporting on service performance and contributing to strategic planning

- Working with the community to promote compliance and economic growth
- Delivering educational initiatives to raise awareness of community issues

About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Extensive experience in community protection and environmental health, with a thorough understanding of relevant legislation
- Proven leadership and people management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to engage diverse stakeholders
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- A self-motivated, independent yet collaborative approach
