I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

No two projects are the same and the role offers exposure across a broad range of technical topics and business models.

One of the biggest attractions of the role is the breadth of exposure. Rather than focusing on a single company, product or portfolio, you'll gain insight into a wide range of international insurers and reinsurers operating across the global market.

Key benefits include: Exposure to some of the world's largest and most sophisticated (re)insurance groups Work across capital, reserving, risk management, internal models and solvency A highly varied role where no two projects are the same Significant stakeholder exposure and influence International remote working flexibility A collaborative team of experienced actuaries and risk professionals Strong long-term career development opportunities

Experience with legacy business, portfolio transfers or run-off transactions would also be of interest, although this is not essential.

This is a senior technical position rather than a people management role and would suit an actuary (with extensive experience at the Head of/Chief Actuary level or equivalent) looking to broaden their experience beyond a traditional insurer or consultancy environment whilst remaining technically hands-on.
