Principal Performance Analyst

Vacancy: Principal Performance Analyst – NHS Data & Analytics

At Leeds Community Healthcare, we are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Principal Performance Analyst to join our team and lead the development and launch of the ‘Master KPI Mist’ Programme. This critical role will utilise your expertise in Performance Management to ensure KPIs are effectively defined, understood, and embedded within data processes, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include driving innovation and continuous improvement in data quality, integrity, and performance while offering flexible working arrangements (including hybrid arrangements with fortnightly/monthly face-to-face meetings).

This opportunity is ideal for those passionate about enhancing NHS services through high-quality data and analytics, as the foundation for monitoring and managing performance.


About the Role

The Principal Performance Analyst will serve within the Performance Team, with a six-month fixed-term/secondment focused on:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a Trust Performance Management Framework, with a specific emphasis on KPI design and maintenance.
  • Defining, refining, and embedding KPIs that align with national and local NHS standards.
  • Driving innovation in data-driven performance measurement, ensuring data quality improvement processes are fully integrated into production.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders, including service leaders and corporate teams, to:
    • Clarify performance expectations.
    • Ensure a comprehensive and impactful suite of KPIs that deliver governance, control, and assurance alongside board reports and committees.

Key Responsibilities

  • KPI Development & Governance

    • Oversee development, alignment, and maintenance of Master KPIs against best practice.
    • Ensure KPIs are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) and effectively communicated.
    • Clarify requirements with ad-hoc teams (attributes, data governance) to define performance Success Factors.
  • Data Quality & Process Improvement

    • Identify and execute improvements in data quality, integrity, and process efficiency.
    • Implement structured monitoring to ensure KPI data is clean, reliable, and accountable.
  • Relationship & Stakeholder Management

    • Collate input from service leaders and translate insights into actionable KPI criteria.
    • Partner with data teams to co-author KPI dashboards, ensuring corporate governance receives timely, robust reports.
  • Technical & Team Leadership

    • Lead a team of technical analysts in developing reporting frameworks aligned with defined KPIs.
    • Ensure Board-level and Committee reporting meets strategic governance needs.
    • Substantiate I.T. capacity needs to automate dashboards, including demands with the (S&I).
  • Presentations & Change Management

    • Present findings and propose tactical or procedural solutions to the Performance Team.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?

Your Skills & Experience

  • Experience in Performance Measurement / KPI development in the NHS (or equivalent national auditor-regulated environments).
  • Pedagogical experience in training users on advanced analytics tools and dashboard insights.
  • Analytical expertise (e.g., reviewing financial statements, statistical data management).
  • Exceptional ability to clarify, articulate, and champion workflow innovations.
  • Intermediate+ SQL knowledge (e.g., leveraging logical joins and sub-queries for data restructuring).
  • Technical aptitude in Microsoft Analytics, SQL, and Power BI/Tableau.
