Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Principal Pharmacist for Education and Training to lead the development and delivery of pharmacy education across Wexham Park and Heatherwood Hospitals.
This is a key leadership role, supporting the training and development of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students, and wider pharmacy staff. The successful candidate will help shape a skilled, confident, and future-ready pharmacy workforce, while also contributing to high-quality clinical pharmacy services and safe, effective medicines use.
You will work closely with pharmacy, clinical, and education colleagues across the Trust, as well as external academic partners, to deliver high-quality training programs and promote a strong learning culture.

Main Duties of the Job
- Manage education and training functions within pharmacy services, including line management of clinical diploma pharmacists, lead education and training pharmacists, and technician education leads.
- Oversee training and development for pre-registration pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacy technicians, clinical diploma pharmacists, pharmacy students, qualified technicians, and pharmacy assistants.
- Maintain and develop links with universities, external training providers, other NHS Trusts, and professional bodies to support pharmacy workforce development.
- Work closely with clinical and education leads across the Trust to identify training needs and deliver programs aligned to service priorities and developing professional roles.
- Support the implementation of pharmacy apprenticeships and maximize the use of the apprenticeship levy for pharmacy staff.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the pharmacy education and training strategy in collaboration with senior pharmacy colleagues.
- Act as a role model for clinical pharmacy practice and promote safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicines.
- Provide teaching, advice, and training to pharmacy staff, medical and nursing colleagues, healthcare professionals, support staff, and patient groups as required.
- Recruit, manage, develop, and support staff, including involvement in HR processes such as performance management, grievance, and disciplinary investigations where required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Pharmacy degree (Master level, 4 years)
- Registration with the GPhC
- Postgraduate clinical diploma/MSc equivalent
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Independent Prescribing Pharmacist (or working towards)
Desirable Criteria
- Faculty Membership of RPS
- Higher qualification (e.g., MSc, PhD)
- Formal teacher/training qualification
Specific Competencies for Role
Essential Criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills
- Able to work on several issues simultaneously; able to reprioritize work in a rapidly changing environment
- Able to make effective, prompt decisions when faced with variable, often highly complex information and situations
Desirable Criteria
- Project management experience
Professional/Specialist/Functional Experience
Essential Criteria
- Significant post-qualification experience working at a senior level
- Recognised clinical pharmacy background
- Experience of teaching pharmacy students at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Tutoring at postgraduate level Pre-registration Tutoring
