About The Role

As a Principal Process Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of all Process Engineering requirements across either a single large/complex project or multiple medium-sized/complexity projects.

Delivering project requirements individually or as a leader of a team. Actively participates in the development of more junior engineers.

You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and be located at Westlakes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline.
  • Depending on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the client's responsible engineering team.
  • Responsible for the development of key design deliverables such as Process drawings: Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams.
  • Checking and Approval of calculations including mass, energy, and flow balances, pipe and equipment sizing.
  • Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations, and customer-specific standards.
  • Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
  • Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted, and professionally presented.
  • Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages.
  • Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
  • Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.

Qualifications

  • At least 8+ years' experience in industry at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level.
  • Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or an associated discipline.
  • Chartered Member of the IChemE.
  • Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes, and directives and how they should be applied including (but not limited to) Pressure Equipment Regulations, COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR, etc.
  • Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of process design.
  • Ability to undertake technical tasks and also disclose their technical limitations.
  • Willingness to mentor more junior engineers and designers.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management, executive leadership, and support staff.
